Madeline M. Marcum has published short fiction in Metaphor and They Walk Among Us. Her short story “Monsters in the Woods” was elected for presentation at the National Undergraduate Literary Conference in 2019. When she is not maintaining course content for an online university during the day, she can be found furiously typing away in different places around the house long past her bedtime. In stolen hours between her day job and story crafting, she makes time to be involved with the writing community and in supporting other writers. Long

While earning a degree in creative writing, Madeline M. Marcum began publishing short fiction. Her stories have appeared in the Metaphor literary journal and They Walk Among Us anthology. In 2019, her short story “Monsters in the Woods” was submitted and selected to be presented at the National Undergraduate Literary Conference, the only literary conference of its kind in the United States.

Madeline currently works at an online university helping to maintain their courses for thousands dedicated students. After work and on her days off, she will sneak a way and take a few precious hours to write. Madeline does manage to carve time out to participate in the local league of writers and volunteer at events and conferences when time permits. When she finds a new writer in the wild, she encourages them to join a writing group or find people who will support them on their creative journey, wherever it leads.

Frequently moving around the Western United States in her younger years, Madeline gained a love for new sights and experiences (she will try any food at least once). Since she can’t watch sunrises on distant planets or fly under unfamiliar constellations, she creates her own fantastical destinations and the characters that have adventures there. It just so happens that other people like to read about them too.

Madeline lives with her husband in between the Oquirrh and Rocky Mountains. Sometimes she visits them when she remembers to take a break from writing and go outside. Find out more at madelinemmarcum.com.
